Two species of Rhinos once roamed the savannahs and woodlands of Uganda.
Today, the Rhino is gone from Uganda, wiped out by war and harsh economic
conditions that led poachers to hunt it down to sell the horn. It is
time for the rhino to come home, and bringing home the rhino is what
Rhino Fund Uganda intends to do.
With greater stability in protected areas and recent wildlife legislation
enacted to ensure the protection of wildlife, Rhino Fund Uganda will
create a sanctuary for the breeding of rhinos. Later they will be re-introduced
into Uganda's protected areas. Rhino Fund will also launch an education
and awareness campaign to inform people about the protection of this
highly endangered species.
Rhino Fund Uganda is a non-governmental organisation established and
registered in Uganda in 1997 whose sole objective is to successfully
re-introduce the Rhino to Uganda. Rhino Fund Uganda represents a voluntary
effort to help restore Uganda's wildlife and ensure the existence of
rhinos in Uganda for future generations. Soon again the rhino will again
be roaming the savannahs and bush of Uganda allowing visitors to see
one of Uganda's big five in the wild.
